J. Kermit Campbell, 74, is the former Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Herman Miller, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of office furniture. Since leaving Herman Miller, Inc. in 1995, Mr. Campbell has invested in a number of ventures, including United Power Line Contractors, Bering Truck Corporation, Black Star Farms, Advanced Information Systems, United Shield International, PassAlong Networks and CORE Energy Co. Mr. Campbell is a director of Traverse City State Bank, an honorary Trustee and past Chairman of the Board of Hope College, a Trustee of the Northwestern Michigan College Foundation, a Trustee of Eagle Village and a Charitable Trustee and President of Traverse Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Campbell has also been Chairman of Bering Truck Corporation and a director of Irwin Union Bank, Tennessee Pacific, and PassAlong Networks. Mr. Campbell has been a director of SPX since 1993. Mr. Campbell is our longest-serving Board member. Since 1993, Mr. Campbell has consistently applied the operational, financial, and strategic experience garnered from his career, as well as involvement in a number of other business interests. In addition to the qualifications, attributes and skills Mr. Campbell initially brought to our Board, he now offers the perspective, institutional knowledge, and deep understanding of our business accumulated over his 20 years on our Board.

George F. Bearup
George F. Bearup has practiced law in Traverse City for 36 years. He is recognized in Michigan and the nation as a leader in the areas of estate planning and retirement planning. George is one of only 2,600 attorneys in the nation elected to be a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. The College is a national organization that includes attorneys who have demonstrated the highest level of integrity, commitment to the profession, competence, and experience as trust and estate counselors.
George is very active in the Traverse City community and was most recently tapped to chair the Munson Healthcare Affiliations Committee, which was created to analyze a potential partnership with Spectrum Health. Over the years, he has donated a significant amount of time, legal expertise, and resources to the Rotary Charities of Traverse City, the largest grant giving chapter of all Rotary Charities in the world.
In addition, George is a frequent speaker and moderator for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education seminars, including the Annual Drafting Estate Planning Documents Seminar and Annual Probate and Estate Planning Institute. He has written several articles on divorce, probate trusts, and estate planning, and is a chapter author and former co-editor of the “Michigan Revocable Grantor Trusts” (ICLE 2d and 3d eds).
Notably, George was a founding member of Smith Haughey’s Traverse City office in 1990. George is a Fellow of the State Bar of Michigan. He has been listed in “The Best Lawyers in America” (Trusts) for over 20 years, is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and has been named as a “Michigan Super Lawyer” since 2006. In addition, George has been a Fellow of The American College of Trusts and Estates Council since 2002.
Michael Broughton is founder and president of Atlanta CFO Services. He has over twenty years of diverse financial management experience and a broad business background that includes information systems, mergers and acquisitions, SEC reporting, and planning. He specializes in providing leadership to organizations in transition.
Prior to starting his own firm, he served in the audit department of Alumax, a subsidiary of Alcoa. In that capacity, he gained additional SEC, manufacturing, cost accounting and supervisory experience. Before joining Alumax, he was a staff accountant in the audit department with KPMG, a Big 4 accounting firm. He managed numerous engagements for a wide variety of clients with an emphasis on insurance, technology and banking.
Michael graduated, magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a concentration in Accountancy. He is CPA licensed in the state of Georgia. He is a member of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Atlanta CFO Roundtable. He is also a graduate of the Georgia Society of CPA’s Leadership Academy and serves as the Vice Chair of the Leadership Academy Committee.
Michael currently serves on the boards of directors for the Atlanta Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPA’s, MedCare Staffing, Inc., Tucker Professional Association and West Park Properties. He is also a former director for the Starlight Children’s Foundation of Atlanta.
Steve Cousins has been Superintendent of Traverse City Area Public Schools and has served as Superintendent of Reeths-Puffer Schools for seven years. He has also held positions of High School Principal, Middle School Principal, and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Staff Development.
Steve is currently a Leadership Consultant and Executive Coach for PEAK Learning Systems providing training for principals, curriculum directors, assistant superintendents and superintendents in strategic planning, execution of rapid improvement cycles, leadership development through the Leading for Excellence Institute and coaching for building and central office administrators.

Wendy Hermann Steele of Traverse City has been awarded the prestigious Jefferson Award for Public Service in Cincinnati. Steele, who relocated to northern Michigan from Cincinnati in 2004, will travel to Washington, D.C. to represent the region at the national awards ceremony in June.
Steele was recognized for Impact 100, Inc. an idea she had for women joining together to change lives by awarding transformational grants to local nonprofits. Since its founding in 2001, more than $2.5 million has been donated and the model has expanded to 18 other U.S. communities and internationally to Australia. In total, more than $25 million has donated by more than 5,000 women.
Steele is the owner/CEO of Stexley-Brake, LLC, which designs, manufactures and distributes consumer and industrial products under the Tape Wrangler brand. The company also assists inventors and businesses bring new products to market. She is also involved in numerous community projects and philanthropic efforts.
Judy brings more than three decades of sports marketing and brand management experience to the Forces for Kids advisory group. Her background includes strategic marketing, brand development, property/event management, and sponsor/media partnership programming for professional teams and leagues, National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) global marketing agencies and non-profit associations.
She served as Vice President of Marketing for the NBA (NYC), Director of Marketing and Promotion Services for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games (Salt Lake City) and held senior management positions with a Chicago-based global marketing agency, and a national non-profit education association.
